Neil Young Joins The Rock’n Roll Memoirists Club
Neil Writes A Book
Neil don’t look quite as young as he used to, but apparently the influential singer/songwriter is still going strong at age 65. Now besides all his musical performances, the Canadian musician has a book that will soon be published. According to the NY Times ArtBeat the book will be tentatively called “Waging Heavy Peace” and will be released in the fall of 2012, which is about a year away. The publisher will be the Blue Rider Press, which is an imprint of Penguin books. Although not completely finished as of the present (early October 2011) most of the material has already been put to paperin some form or another. The manuscript is expected to cover all aspects of Neil’s life, from his Canadian childhood to his emergence from Buffalo Springfield as one of the major musical influences of the second half of the 20th century.
Neil Young joins the ranks of several prominent musicians, who have ventured into the literary ranks, including Patti Smith, who just received a National Book Award for her memoir “Just Kids”. Other notables who have recently taken this route include Bob Dylan, Keith Richards and Pete Townsend. I am sure there will be more to come.
Is Publishing Becoming An Activity For the Rich and Famous Only
The logical question that may pop up is the publishing industry now only catering to millionaire rock and roll stars and successful politicians. It may sure seem that way especially when one takes a quick look at the NY Times bestseller lists. However, against all indicators that point in this direction, I feel that there is still contradictory evidence that says no. ………More to come on this topic very soon.
